FURNISHING FOR SMALL SPACES

So i recently visited an old friend of mine, we hadn't seen each other in a while, after school she went off and got married while i....[don't ask where i have been] looked for a career part. Well as usual i prepared well for the visit because i wanted to impress but most especially because i knew she was a show off. Upon entry into her humble abode the first thing i noticed was that we were fighting for walk space, she had loads of furnishing and huge Victorian sofa's entrapped in their small living room. Don't get me wrong they were all quite the expensive stuff but the space was small, way too small for the size and quantity of furniture's she had. In fact i loved some of her pieces and the visit went well though, lovely people, good food and plenty laughter. But I decided to write about it here as ,most Nigerian homes suffer the same fete and i remembered we had previously talked about choosing the color palette for your home in other not to turn your home into a zoo of colors, well today we are here with giving you tips on how to chose the right furniture/furnishing for a small space.
Small spaces require certain type of furniture and fixtures to make the space livable, the wrong furniture can turn the living space into a cramped over stuffed room.
Well below are some tips we hope you find useful.
1. You have to think, Does your living room really need the complete Sofa set? why not try something different. by Adding ottomans, Chaise lounges and pouffe, these are functional as it is a sitting that doubles as decorative accents.

Setting up a small space is also about finding and using hidden spaces, and most importantly choosing furniture that does more than one function.
like this corner chair, this can seat perfectly in a corner as a decorative accent and also can be brought out when an extra siting is required.
2. Make use of your wall space , don't keep it bare , wall storage systems are springing up and also used in adding a good look to your living area.

3. Better still you can, kill two birds with one stone by buying a Television console that doubles as a storage system. You can effectively hide things in plain sight with these storage units.

4. Lamps - instead of using huge table lamps that takes up space, wall scones are a better idea while trying to utilize your space. Do not let your wall be wasted.

they are simple , effective and also serves as wall decorative.
Use wall arts, framed family photographs and collages to to fill up wall spaces, also use mirrors, mirrors and more mirrors , you can never go wrong with it.
Finally, while making the living room arrangements consider the walk flow of the space. {i.e, is it a walk through to get to another part of the house from].

Remember to keep it minimal because you want the room to look good as well as been functional.

AMAZING HOME OFFICE TRANSFORMATION

Check out this amazing transformation of a cramped home office space , from bland and cramped to airy and sophist....

The client wanted a place to work and relax as well, as he does most of his work at home.

Firstly the wall was painted mint green, [to make the room seem/appear larger to eye than it actually is], Pops of red was here and there to give the room color. The couch was placed for the client's relaxation use.
The drapes were kept dark to ward off light from penetrating the room, just to make the room feel cozy as it is a room for reading and concentration.
The fixed wardrobe was removed to create more room in the office, and a small cabinet replaced it with decorative, arts and also our clients awards displayed on it.
The wall art was placed in the recessed area as nothing else could be done there, because it is a low bearing wall and paint art just added a little bit of pattern to the room, the refrigerator was added to house refreshments for the client as opposed to leaving the room every other hour to the kitchen.
The center rug was placed to help the client from placing his feet on the bare floor for a long period of time because the room is chilly with the air conditioner installed.  The restroom was revamped to function as both a storage area and rest room, the old shelves were taken off and in its place an open storage wardrobe, which has enough room for storage [you could take a leak and read]
Great, isn't it?
Take a cue from this transformation process decluster a small room and transform it into a home office.
Achieving this is quite easy but if you have any questions and/or ideas you'd like to share with us, please drop it in the comment section .

DESIGN PROJECT 1 [ANTE ROOM]

Good day people, sorry for the long absence. So today on our post we shall be talking about design inspiration, from spaces we have given face lifts... we will give just a few tips per segment as this is going to be in various parts.
If you are looking to re-design your space or just starting to do up your own place, well, come in here because this is for you.
Doing up a space can be quite tedious if you do not know what exactly it is you want your space to exude or say.
For your living room and ante room, you can try out the following ideas, but keep in mind that lighting is very essential in creating a warm ambiance.

In the space above, the client already had the red cushion and needed a scheme that would work well with the existing furnishings.
The complementary color scheme was used, [i.e. the color green and red]. Red being a very provocative color , it was important to tone it down and add dept to the space by introducing lots of neutrals with the floor and walls.
The client also appreciates minimalism, so the decor was kept simple by introducing just one painting on the wall and an ornate decorative pot on the center table. The elephant vase bearing the floral arrangement introduced a little drama just enough to spice up the space. The decorative throw pillows were kept withing the color scheme.

This space can be achieved by anyone. Just remember to
  1. choose a color scheme and keep within the limits.
  2. use not more than three colors in a space but you can add depth by introducing lots of neutrals.
  3. if you are going to introduce color with the furniture and furnishings, the keep the wall neutral and simple.
